2010-2011 Season!
Dear Patrons,
It is with great excitement that I invite you to be a part of my tenth season as Music Director of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra! I cannot believe that time has flown so quickly, but the calendar doesn’t lie.
This season also marks another anniversary, in April I celebrate 30 years as a conductor. So with all of that in mind, I decided this season to simply choose some of my favorite pieces for you. Many are big selections that the orchestra and I have performed before. Others are selections I have wanted to bring
to Springfield but haven’t yet had the opportunity to introduce.
Among the new works are two wonderful piano concertos, one by Barber and the other a brilliant and little-known gem by Dvorák. For a deepening of our artistic work together, the orchestra and I will revisit Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s 5th, Mozart’s 40th and Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique!
Come April, we’ll celebrate my 30th anniversary as a conductor with a program that’s very special to me. Music of the Ballet will evoke the work I do with the major ballet companies of Europe. We’ll present Stravinsky’s Petrouschka, music from Coppelia, the infamous Sabre Dance and my own Symphonic Suite from Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece of ballet, Sleeping Beauty.
Prepare for high-energy Pops performances as well! A full season of pure nostalgia kicks off with the best of Motown. Then, I’m happy to say, I’ll be home for the holidays and returning to the podium for our Holiday Concerts! I also will be directing a tribute to the Oscars and rocking with hits that topped the Billboard charts from the 1950s to the ’60s. We can all feel young again!
See you at the symphony,

Kevin Rhodes
